Most audit translations are straightforward, intended for internal reporting or for submission to the parent company. However, when the audited accounts or the report need to be submitted for legal purposes — such as filing, tenders, regulatory bodies or legal proceedings — a certified translation is required, signed and stamped by an officially authorised sworn translator and interpreter. You can check their authorisation by language using the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ official search engine.
The general framework is governed, amongst other regulations, by Royal Decree 724/2020 (BOE), which regulates the Office for Language Interpretation and the role of sworn translators. If your procedure is international, in some cases an apostille or legalisation may also be required, depending on the country.
